The operation, which was conducted by the Rwanda Educational Board and funded by the British Council, takes place over three phases during the first three quarters of 2019. The first distribution was completed between February and early April and the second one between late May and the end of June. The last distribution phase will take place between July and August.

A total of 2500 schools in Rwanda has already received, or will soon receive, a chest full of mathematical material. The material also includes compasses, rulers, pocket calculators and protractors – everything to aid the next generation of scientists. In addition to this equipment, young students of P2 and P3 classes will also receive an extra book for two students.

Access to the schools, which are spread over 30 districts around the country, is often very difficult. To transport the total 625cbm of material, the AGS team has to drive the truck as close as possible to the schools, then complete the journey either by 4×4, on foot or sometimes by boat for some schools located on islands.

The team of AGS Rwanda is very excited to participate in this great project which was organised by the British Council, one of AGS’s loyal partners.

AGS Warsaw completes Brazilian Ambassador’s move https://www.agsmovers.com/news/ags-warsaw-completes-brazilian-ambassadors-move/ Sun, 20 Jan 2019 12:33:42 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/?p=39737 AGS Movers Warsaw recently completed a diplomatic cargo move for Brazil’s Ambassador to Poland, Alfredo Leoni. Mr Leoni has served as Brazilian ambassador for several countries around the world for nearly 40 years and most of his household goods included collections of very fragile items.

AGS Warsaw Key Account Manager, Piotr Zelwak managed the move of Mr Leoni’s goods from Poland back to Brazil. Piotr, an AGS veteran for more than 20 years, has handled countless moves throughout his career but admits that this move was very special due to its sensitive nature. “The household goods of Mr Leoni included large collections of fragile items such as crystal and porcelain pieces, as well as antique furniture and various works of art,”says Piotr.

The AGS Warsaw team once again demonstrated a high level of professionalism and attention to detail to move Mr Leoni’s consignment, and great care was given to packing and boxing the household items. AGS used high quality boxes and packing material to ensure all items were secure and minimum damage was caused to the valuables.*

“I was very careful in choosing a moving company as I’ve learned the importance of having an experienced team during the course of my career,” says Mr Leoni. “Considering the dismal performance of some of the moving companies we have worked with in the past, I made the decision to work with AGS for my final move back to Brazil.”

“The AGS packing team is very experienced and extremely careful with each piece. The packing was performed in the most professional way. Besides for the excellence of its packing team members, AGS also uses solid boxes which adds additional protection and gave me extra peace of mind,” says Mr Leoni.

AGS Warsaw packer, Maciej Antczak, who has worked at AGS for more than ten years, handled all the packing for the move. He did an excellent job and successfully packed more than 200 boxes of chinaware.

“I am very satisfied with the service received from AGS Warsaw. The team, under the supervision of Piotr Zelwak, was very professional and took care of all paperwork related to the move. Piotr is an industry expert and pays extra attention to all matters related to the move, from packing to shipping,” Mr Leoni added.

The AGS Group would like to congratulate Piotr (pictured above with a painting offered by Mr Leoni) on completing 20 years at the company. The success of Mr Leoni’s move is further evidence of the great service Piotr has offered during his tenure and we wish him many more successful moves in the future.

Top 10 moving tips https://www.agsmovers.com/news/top-ten-moving-tips/ Thu, 24 May 2018 10:39:59 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/?p=34094 Moving to a new home and location can be stressful. Here is 10 moving tips which we have compiled for you, to help you avoid the pitfalls of a relocation.

Prepare your home for the sale

Make any necessary repairs and call in professional cleaners before placing your property on the market. Buyers are very sensitive to detail, and the slight improvement can increase your home’s selling price dramatically.

Invest in the best home inspection possible

Conducting a thorough home inspection will protect you when buying and selling a house. Inspection fees can be negotiated between the buyer and the seller.

Don’t leave packing to the last minute

Organisation is the key to a stress-free move. Pack items that you do not use on a regular basis as soon as you can. Write itemised lists of everything each box contains.

Arrange temporary accommodation before moving

Arrange for appropriate and well-suited temporary accommodation at destination before your move to ensure that you are comfortable while waiting for your new home to be available.

Consider the location of your children’s school when choosing a home

Living close to the school(s) you have chosen for your children will make adjusting to new routines much easier for the whole family.

Research exchange rates

It is a good idea to research the exchange rate in your new home, as well as the cost of living. This will help you manage your finances better, which will be one less challenge to worry about while you are settling down.

Use your contacts to find a job for your spouse

If your spouse is having difficulty starting a new career in the host country, speak to your business contacts and other people you meet, as they may offer useful advice or know of job vacancies. Forming relationships with people in your host country will give you the edge in helping your husband or wife find work.

Keep the school year in mind

It is much easier for children to adapt to a new school at the beginning of the school year with other children. Keeping this in mind when planning your move will go a long way in helping your children to adjust, especially with making new friends.

Prepare your children and teenagers for the move

Cope with culture shock

Remember that all expatriates face culture shocks to varying degrees. Be alert to the fact that you are going to enter a completely different environment.

Insurance tips https://www.agsmovers.com/news/insurance-tips/ Mon, 21 May 2018 12:56:53 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/?p=33980 AGS has compiled a list of insurance tips to help you best insure your personal effects during the move.

Do not hesitate to contact us, should you require more information about our insurance policy.

How should I value my goods?

Valuing your goods and completing your inventory is an important step of your move, ensuring your goods are well covered.

Every item you intend to move should be covered
Moving companies, in general, require that all household goods and other items appears on the inventory list in order to be insured. Note that insurers usually calculate their risks and premiums based on the entire value of goods moved by all their clients.

Purchase value of the goods at destination
Remember to value and insure your effects at the replacement value at destination, i.e. what it would cost to replace the item in the country you are moving to. If required, you will have to repair or replace the item in your new country. We strongly recommend that you research the cost of living in your country of destination, using travel guides or websites.

Do not undervalue your shipment
Your insurer will refund you according to the value of your shipment/item. For this reason we recommend that you do not undervalue your shipment. If you have to submit a claim, insurers will only reimburse you according to the declared value on your inventory and the proportion of the damage. Undervaluing your goods will result in insufficient compensation to cover the cost of repair or replacement of these items.

Provide as much detail as possible
The inventory is usually used by moving companies to list items to be moved and insured. List each item as well as their quantity and price.

Declare your high value items
Ensure that you have as much written information about your high value items (items valued at EUR 20,000.00 or more for instance) as possible. The underwriters of your moving company may require proof of ownership and/or value of such items. Make sure you photograph these items, print them in color, date and sign the prints and add them to your inventory. For items of high value, you can never take too many precautions.

Car Insurance pay-out if lost/damaged

In case of damage to or loss of vehicles, insurers usually apply a reduction to the amount paid out, calculated according to the age and mileage of the vehicle.

Storage Coverage Extension

The policy cover will be outlined by your removals company. Some moving companies offers to insure their clients’ goods from collection to delivery whilst others only insure goods while in storage. If you need comprehensive coverage for secure storage before or after transit, you may need a separate insurance coverage. Ensure that you establish the insurance policy of your specific movers.

Claiming from your insurance

This will depend on the insurance policy of the chosen removals company. Ensure that you know what the procedure is in the event of a claim for goods that have been lost or damaged in transit. Here are some points that you will need to clarify with your moving company:

  • The time allowed for you to notify your mover of any damage, from the day of delivery
  • The information that you need to provide when giving notice
  • When you need to make your claim, what it must include and how it should be notified (i.e. registered mail, e-mail, normal mail)
  • Any other information/paperwork that will be required

Main Exclusions

Removals companies do not usually cover goods which fall under the following risk criteria:

Consequential loss
Consequential losses (i.e. resulting losses) arising from the delay in delivery may not be covered, and loss of value and depreciation due to damage and/or after repair may be excluded from cover. Ensure that you clarify this with your removals company.

Owner packed goods
Items packed by the owner without inspection by the mover before the carton box is sealed, are classified as “Packed by Owner” (abbreviated as U20 or PBO). Movers usually exclude cover to items which are damaged or lost in owner-packed-cartons. If you wish to be covered, allow your removals company to pack or repack all items.

AGS demonstrates art expertise in Guadeloupe https://www.agsmovers.com/news/ags-demonstrates-art-expertise-in-guadeloupe/ https://www.agsmovers.com/news/ags-demonstrates-art-expertise-in-guadeloupe/#respond Tue, 26 Jan 2016 13:56:17 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/ags-demonstrates-art-expertise-in-guadeloupe/ AGS is well-known for the high quality of our packaging and handling – of critical importance with art removals – and our branch in Guadeloupe recently demonstrated this during its work for the Memorial ACTe: a Caribbean centre for expression and memory of the slave trade, based in Pointe-à-Pitre.

Having already proven their abilities through several art removal projects over the past 5 years, AGS’ team in Guadeloupe have become accustomed to this type of assignment.

Conducted as part of the construction of the Memorial ACTe, the recent operation emphasized AGS’ commitment to the quality of the specialized packaging required for the transport of artwork.

Particularly delicate in terms of handling and lasting for over 10 days, the project entailed 40 m3 of collectibles, sculptures, paintings, archaeological items, books, and other objects being carefully packed. These were then transferred from Guadeloupe’s regional headquarters to the Memorial ACTe, where they were unpacked and installed.

Specialised packing techniques

“Works of art require specific attention – especially ceramics, earthenware and old manuscripts which have to be packed into protective crates,” explains François Chataigne, AGS Guadeloupe’s Branch Manager.

To protect artworks during handling, specialised packaging is prepared. The construction of tailor-made protective crates and the use of polystyrene boards are keys phases for their packaging. The layout and loading of protective crates and boxes inside the truck are also major components of the preparation required for transfer.

Guadeloupe

Excelling through technical expertise

During this operation, three 40-foot containers – arriving from Paris and containing archived documents, icons and artworks – were received and unpacked on-site by AGS Guadeloupe’s team. This included two large-scale collection pieces that required particularly special care: The tree of oblivion from Pascale Marthine Tayou; and a marine anchor.

While the anchor had to be carefully positioned near the Memorial ACTe’s entrance, the second installation was even more delicate. It required a 6m-long tree trunk being erected vertically within the museum’s scenic route, in a small 8m² room. Positioning the tree, weighing more than a ton, required all the ingenuity of AGS Guadeloupe’s team!

Guadeloupe

“AGS Guadeloupe is honoured to play an important role in the protection and dissemination of the cultural heritage of our island through this project,” adds François. “We also look forward to offering our specialised support during similar projects in the future.”

He reveals that AGS Guadeloupe has already been contracted for another art moving operation in Guadeloupe for 2016.

We wish AGS Guadeloupe every success, and are confident that they will once again demonstrate AGS’ commitment to quality packaging and handling. To request a free quote for your future art removal, follow this link
